Juan Grabois criticized the senators for the increase: "They only care about their privileges."

Social leader Juan Grabois harshly criticized national senators after it was confirmed that they will begin receiving more than 9.5 million pesos starting in July. "With honorable exceptions, they only care about reproducing, retaining, and expanding their privileges," he wrote on his X account, after learning of the salary increase voted on months ago.

With a few honorable exceptions, they're sons of bitches who only care about reproducing, retaining, and expanding their privileges. They have a fixed 9.5 million and a variable amount for each suitcase that a few people receive to vote for whatever Milei wants. pic.twitter.com/i45eTn4fYP

The new amount was set in April, when the Senate approved, by a show of hands and without prior discussion, a mechanism tying their salaries to the collective bargaining agreements of Congressional employees. This automatic clause triggered the increase, which will begin to take effect next month.

It was endorsed by the presidents of both chambers, Martín Menem (Deputy) and Victoria Villarruel (Senate), who signed a 1.3% increase with the unions on Tuesday for the months of March, April, and May. This update has a direct impact on legislators' salaries, which will now exceed 9.5 million pesos per month .

For Grabois, the salary increase not only reflects the privileges of the political class, but also a system of favors. "They have a fixed 9.5 million and a variable amount for each package that a few people receive to vote for whatever Javier Milei asks for," he said, pointing to possible extra payments in exchange for legislative support.

The MTE leader also questioned the contrast between the social situation and the senators' benefits. "People are struggling, losing their jobs, suffering rate hikes, and they're raising their salaries as if nothing had happened," he added in a statement to the media. His social media post went viral within minutes.

There was no public response from the ruling party, although sources in Congress indicated that the increase had been agreed upon months ago and was part of the agreement with the unions. To stop it, a new resolution would have to be voted on, something that is not currently on the agenda.

The controversy not only spread to Congress, but also to the streets and social media. Several social leaders joined in the protest, as did citizens who view such measures as a mockery in the midst of the economic crisis. The senators' salary increase , which raises their allowances to over 9.5 million pesos , promises to continue generating political buzz. Juan Grabois, with his statement, gave voice to a growing discontent.
